Cascaded heat pump system provides prestigious lodge with all their heating and hot water requirements

Situated at the entrance of Prince’s 27 hole championship links golf course, The Lodge, with two adjoining Lodge Houses has 38 bedrooms including two lavish Bay and Links suites, The Brasserie, offices, lounge & bar.

The complete heating & hot water system was originally designed with a central plant room fed by numerous ASHP’s located on the roof of the main building and then linked underground to the adjacent lodges.

Unfortunately, the poor design meant constant breakdowns and callouts to repair individual units on an ad hoc basis causing disruption and annoyance to both client & customers.

The solution was to provide individual heating & hot water to the isolated lodges via air source heat pumps and their own hot water cylinders housed under the stairs, reducing heat losses and speeding up hot water supply.

The main building had four 12kw units protected by bollards and sited at ground level. This was to negate the impact of the south westerly prevailing wind that had caused so many previous problems and had been overlooked in the previous design.

The main building was circa 1200m2 with a heat loss of 32Wm2K and heat load requirement of 37kW. A continuous demand for hot water with 14 guest rooms meant hot water production was paramount.

The smaller 400m2 lodges were serviced by their own their own heat pumps located adjacent to the building and in a neatly constructed slatted secure housing.
