What is Chemical Free Water Treatment?

Currently the most common way to prevent corrosion in heating systems is to use a chemical inhibitor. However, when installing a heat pump, we use a range of water treatment products by IWTM to help clean your existing heating system, prevent corrosion, and provide ongoing protection. All without the use of harsh chemicals.

The first stage is to fill your heating system with the IWTM Protector Prime which produces pure water, helping to increase the efficiency of your heating system whilst preventing rust and scaling.

But How Does it Work?

Raw water from the tap is electrically conductive which speeds up corrosion. In addition, it contains minerals such as lime which cause deposits. It is therefore unsuitable for filling your heating system.

The Purotap ion exchange resin removes minerals such as lime and other salts to produce pure water.

Demineralised water does not contain any deposits and slows down corrosion. This ensures greater energy efficiency and reduces maintenance costs.

Ongoing Protection

Whilst the Protector Prime prevents the risk of corrosion, it is important to provide ongoing protection to your heating system. For this task we fit the Protector on our installations to keep your heat pump running at its optimum efficiency, whilst at the same time reducing the risk of ongoing maintenance.

Comfortable, modern heating systems use water to store and distribute the warmth throughout your heating system. Unfortunately, water also contains aggressive minerals and gases that can cause damage.

Low operating temperatures in heat pumps and increased salt quantities in cylinders also place huge demands on heating water.

The Protector P1 is a result of years of research and development in water engineering and removes unwanted substances, constantly maintaining optimum quality heating water.

But How Does it Work?

  • Prevents Corrosion: The Protector’s water treatment features prevent corrosion in the heating system. This is achieved thanks to magnesium anodes that lower oxygen, regulate PH, and reduce electrical conductivity.

  • Traps Ferrous Particles: Protector is equipped with Neodymium Magnets that trap ferrous particles, drastically increasing the time before manual intervention is needed.

  • Removes Contamination: Protector cleans and restores recirculating systems by removing suspended particles

This photo shows the difference a Protector can have on your heating system. The sample on the left was taken from a customer that was having issues with their system due to poor water quality. The sample on the right was taken six months after chemical free water treatment was installed, complying to VDI 2035.
