France is surging ahead on the installation of heat pumps.

A new report from MCS Charitable Foundation shows that France is surging ahead on the installation of heat pumps, and sets out what the UK needs to do to catch up. The full report can be read HERE

Key findings and recommendations

  • France is installing 10 times the number of heat pumps that the UK is – and already exceeded 600,000 heat pump installations last year

  • France has had years of long-term policy commitment to develop its heat pump market, including financing options and one-stop-shop advice hubs in towns and cities around the country

  • The UK will need to have more ambitious policies to catch up with France in the five years to 2028, including:

    • Making heat pumps the default for all new builds under the Future Homes Standard

    • Reducing the price of electricity through reform of electricity markets to no longer peg it to gas

    • Establishing one-stop-shop advice hubs to boost consumer information and awareness.
