Buying green heating products. A Consumer guide

The Competition and Markets Authority has produced a guide to help consumers make a more informed decision when buying and installing 'green' heating products, such as heat pumps.

It highlights the importance of doing your own research in helping to choose the right product for your home. Trustworthy businesses will be happy to answer questions and provide potential customers with any information needed.

However, remember that businesses are not independent advisors so its a good idea to fact check any claims with other sources too. Consumer advice organisations, your local council or friends and family with experience of buying these products can help with this process.

Make sure you use an accredited business that belongs to a certification scheme, this can give you a number of protections, especially is something goes wrong. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and TrustMark are both endorsed by the UK government.
