Energy efficient Air Source Heat Pump replaces outdated oil boiler in Kent home

Energy efficient Air Source Heat Pump replaces outdated oil boiler in Kent home

A home in rural Kent has swapped an oil boiler for an air source heat pump and is now enjoying the benefits of renewable heating thanks to Solaris Energy.Homeowner Chris Clark’s five-bedroom Swedish-style home, in the pretty village of Postling, Kent on the South East coast; has up until recently, relied on an oil fired boiler for heating, but it was becoming unreliable, outdated and expensive to both run and repair.

Chris explained: “We had decided to investigate an alternative heating system to replace our existing oil fired boiler due mainly to the fluctuating cost of oil supplies, but also because of the environmental impact and the possibility of benefiting from the Domestic RHI scheme.”

As the Clarks were looking for a greener, more energy efficient and economical system to provide heating and hot water in their home, an Air or Ground Source Heat Pump seemed an obvious solution to meet all their requirements. By switching their oil fired system to a heating system that supports the UK in reducing its carbon emissions and meeting its renewable energy targets; the Clarks also became eligible for the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (Domestic RHI), a government financial incentive to promote the use of renewable heat. In qualifying for this grant, the Clarks will cover the capital cost of their installation within 7 years.

Chris added: “We obtained quotations from four separate firms who suggested both Air Source and Ground Source Heat Pump systems. “Solaris Energy were by some margin the most professional and thorough in their tendering process, providing clear alternatives and realistic projections of running costs, savings and installation timings as well as a clear explanation of the Domestic RHI scheme.”

As soon as Chris and his family had decided that an Air Source Heat Pump would work best for them, Solaris Energy installed a Nibe F2040-16 Air Source Heat Pump providing both heating and hot water for the dwelling via their existing under floor heating (UFH) system. The UFH was assessed and deemed suitable for the design flow temperature proposed from the heat pump. This ensured the home was not only warm but also extremely efficient.

Chris sums up: “Having decided to engage Solaris Energy to install an ASHP system the work was undertaken very efficiently and on time and is now providing the expected level of heating and hot water at a lower cost. Applying online for the Domestic RHI was straightforward and we’ve already received our first payments. “I would thoroughly recommend Solaris Energy for their professionalism, attention to detail and comprehensive knowledge of the systems installed. All round, a pleasure to deal with!”
